Sensitive Equipment

Section 2.3 CSU Fullerton Asset Management Policy Manual

 

The following procedure shall be adhered to when sensitive equipment meets all of the following criteria:

  1. Sensitive Equipment:
    1. Firearms – equipment is tagged and tracked by the Asset Management Office.
    2. Motorized Vehicles – equipment registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles.
    3. Portable Computing Devices – equipment that contains sensitive data (i.e. laptops, iPads, desktop computers, and external hard drives).
    4. Equipment that is easily subject to theft or loss as determined by the campus.
    5. Is used to conduct CSU business.
  2. If sensitive equipment meets all of the above criteria then the corresponding department must contact and coordinate with the Asset Management Office for tagging and inventory purposes.
  3. If the equipment has been delivered directly to the CSUF Shipping and Receiving warehouse (T-1100) the Asset Management Office will tag the equipment there if it is easily accessible. However, if the equipment is not tagged at the CSUF Shipping and Receiving warehouse due to equipment packaging, weight, size, etc. then it is the corresponding department’s responsibility to contact and coordinate with the Asset Management Office for tagging once the equipment has been taken out of its packaging and installed.   4. The campus Information Technology (IT) Department is responsible for Information Security at CSUF. IT is therefore responsible for monitoring all items (independent of their monetary value) that contain sensitive data. For the purpose of this policy this means that:
    1. IT is responsible for tracking and monitoring all IT related sensitive assets
    2. IT will ensure that all relevant information regarding IT related fixed assets valued at or above $5,000 and high risk assets will be forwarded to the Asset Management Office.
    3. IT will ensure that all IT related items, independent of their monetary value, will go through the proper disposal process.
    4. Sensitive equipment, excluding firearms will be inventoried and tagged by the Asset Management Office and recorded in PeopleSoft Asset Management. Campus IT will tag portable Computing Devices.
